Project Rearrangements in genomes with unequal content
Date 24/05/05
Version 1.0
Purpose of Meeting To discuss project outline
Supervisor present Leong Hon Wai, Guillaume Bourque

Current Task/Sub-Task

  • Understand what are the focus and requirements of this project
  • Read up relevant papers/books in the field to get some background knowledge
  • Understand and analyse the MGR algorithm developed by Dr Bourque

Reported On

  • None, as this was the initial meeting

Discussed

Project outline

The MGR algorithm developed by Dr Bourque can only handle gene data which contain a common set of homologous blocks. In this project, we will be extending the MGR algorithm to genomes which contain different sets of homologous blocks. The aim of this is to allow us to make use of more information in the hope of recoving a more accurate phylogeny tree and allowing the algorithm to deal with a greater variety of genomes

Readings

Dr Bourque handed out a copy of a draft chapter he is writing on genome rearrangement studies which provides an introduction to this field as well as an extensive bibliography of relevant papers. This bibliography will serve as the inital set of readings for this project

Problems Raised

  • None

Things to report on in next meeting

  • Papers read in the past week
