IOI Workshop 2012

Announcements

10/05/2012 - We will have APIO 2012 soon. Do as best as you can. There will be an important announcement regarding IOI selection test rules. I will mention this to students this Saturday when we meet.

18/04/2012 - Potential conflict dates for IOI Selection Test 2/3: 30 May 2012 (Maths Olympiad, Ananya, etc); Ranald (prefer Weekends, but this request will likely be ignored); Wei Liang (not available until 5 June); Desmond: OK with any date if given ample notice; Bernard: Not OK with 23/06 SMO Senior; Hubert/Joseph/Weiliang: NIC Silicon Valley trip (11-20 June 2012)

14/04/2012 - List of iCode 2012 guest participants: Ananya, Haikal, Hubert, Ranald

09/04/2012 - Problem A of mini contest 10 is rejudged with this new test case: 6 6.0 3.01 3.01 3.0 3.0 3.0. The answer should be 3.91, but many of your code produces 0.74… You have to sort, then try all consecutive three sides and get the largest possible triangle area. As this test data is only found AFTER the contest, the results remain unchanged.

31/03/2012 - Problem A + B of mini contest 9 are rejudged due to DOS/UNIX end line difference. The only change is Ananya's B is now correct during contest time and Anlong's B is correct earlier.

22/03/2012 - It seems that rank 1-7 consistently able to do A+B weekly but unlike last year, not that many manage to break problem C (and thus gain significant advantage in the ranklist). The proper Singapore IOI selection tests on May-June 2012 will likely be very tight…

Note 1: Ananya will be absent on Week05 for Taiwan International Science Fair. His potential 1% will be transferred to the next contest.

Note 2: All RI students cannot attend Week05 contests due to their internal NOI 2012 selection contest. All their potential 1% will be transferred to the next contest.

Note 3: Some students cannot attend Week08 contests due some Science Fair. All their potential 1% will be transferred to the next contest.

Note 4: By default, newcomers that joined CS3233 after NOI 2012 will NOT get the first 6 or 7% from the first 6 or 7 mini contests back. You are allowed entry to CS3233 to prepare for next year! However, if the newcomer has strong chance to be in the final top 4 by June 2012, I will reconsider this situation.

Note 5: Joseph's 2% due to his absence on Week08 and 09 has been transferred to Week10. Colin's late submission for A is AC.

The meaning of '=', 'u', and 'd' are 'same as', 'higher than', 'lower than' the previous week, respectively.

Old Announcements

15/03/2012 - Reminder, Shen Chuanqi will give his next extra session this Saturday, 10am-end @ PL6 as usual

08/03/2012 - I was alerted by some contestants who can solve last night's problem A with greedy solution (or buggy DP solution). Apparently my test data is not strong enough. This test data below should give “Case 1: 3” as optimal answer (4, 8, 17), (6, 9, 13), (2, 13, 13), but a wrong solution will likely answer “Case 1: 2”. I have rejudged some submissions, but all scores remain as yesterday's scores.

9 28

2 4 6 8 9 13 13 13 17

0 0

08/03/2012 - I have updated the ranking as of last night's mini contest 6 (DP2). The subsequent mini contests are not really inside IOI syllabus (max flow/math big numbers/suffix array/polygon manipulation), but it is still good to know these stuffs :).

29/02/2012 - CS3233 tonight will go until 10PM!! IOI trainees, use this as yet another training session for NOI 2012.

21/02/2012 - Remember, there is NO CS3233 class tomorrow (NUS Recess Week). The next session is Chuanqi's fourth (last?) session on Saturday 25 Feb.

16/02/2012 - Remember, the next extra session by Shen Chuanqi is also this Saturday, but starting from 1pm!

09/02/2012 - Only four students manage to score a non zero point in Contest 4 :O… This is partly because 7 RI students cannot attend this contest. But this also give a signal that majority of you have to brush up your Dynamic Programming skills…

01/02/2012 - A message from Shen Chuanqi, I encourage all IOI trainees to join this extra (free) lessons :

Dear IOI Trainees,

I am Chuanqi, a two-time participant of the IOI. I am writing this email (announcement) to invite you to an IOI training program that I am holding in parallel to the CS3233 course. The training program follows a carefully designed syllabus pioneered by my seniors, Koh Zi Chun and Foo Chuan Yu, and will cover techniques and problem solving strategies essential to performing well at the IOI.

The program will be held on Saturdays, starting at 10am and ending at 5pm (officially, but it can possibly stretch all the way to 7pm depending on when we end the contest). Lessons will be taught in the morning, where we will learn about topics such as Dynamic Programming and Data Structures in greater depth, and cover some contest strategies. A 5-hour contest will be held in the afternoon, where you will attempt 3 or 4 problems under IOI conditions and try to attain the highest score possible. Note that the contests are unofficial and will not count towards your final score for IOI selection, but they serve as good practice for the IOI selection tests and the actual IOI competition.

It is my sincere hope that you will consider participating in this training program. If you are interested in participating, please inform me by e-mail (at scq1993 at gmail dot com) as soon as possible. Please state your full name in the email. I will provide you with a username and password to Mu Judge (http://fcy.i-xo.net/mu/index.php), the online judge we will be using. A diagnostic contest has been set up on the judge. Please attempt the problems before Saturday, as we will be discussing them then. The judge employs the token system used in IOI. Try to spend the full 5 hours to gain the most out of the contest. Unlike Mooshak, Mu Judge awards partial credit, so attempt the problems even if you are unable to get the full solution.

If you have any doubts or queries, please also feel free to email me at the same address.

Best Regards, Shen Chuanqi

30/01/2012 - Information for IOI 2013 next year. The dates for IOI 2013 in Brisbane, Australia will be 6-13 July 2013… So, the gap between IOI 2012 and IOI 2013 will be just 10.5 months :O.

27/01/2012 - There is a plan to conduct extra Saturday sessions… Stay tuned…

07/12/2011 - A new page for 2012 is set up :). The old one is IOI Workshop 2011

Next year's IOI will be on 22-29 September 2012 at Lake Garda, Italy. Students aspiring to join Singapore IOI 2012 must work hard over December holiday to improve your problem solving and programming skills. Note: We will find a way to help JC2 students (next year) who are going to face A-level “prelim” which is also on the first three weeks of September 2012 :O.
